About Me

Hi Everyone!

I'm Holly Gerlach and I am so excited that you stopped by :)

I was born and raised in sunny Florida. I am actually a 4th Generation Floridian... My family has been here for quite some time and they have no intention of leaving either! I am fortunate that I live super close by to them as well! My parents are only 10 minutes away and my sister and brother-in-law are literally down the street :)

My Wonderful Family :) Mom, Dad, Alexis (sister), and Me

I attended the University of Tampa, where I received my BS in Elementary Education. After graduation, I started teaching in Tampa at an International Baccalaureate school. I had the privilege of teaching kindergarten and first grade for four years. I has such amazing administrators and the BEST. TEAM. EVER. I honestly think these experiences shaped me into the wonderful educator I am today.

Hubby (Jonathan) and I... Yes, he is from Buffalo... I'm obviously NOT from Buffalo, but I love matching shirts!

I met my wonderful husband, Jonathan, in my school district. He is also in education... He received a  fellowship and was selected to work in the U.S. Senate... Yep, we moved to Washington, DC. It was the most amazing 2 years. I absolutely love DC and I can totally see us moving back there one day. I can't say enough great things about it! While I was in DC, I worked at 2 more International Baccalaureate schools (can you see a trend?).

Oh. And we got married. On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial... It was perfect.

In addition, I have always loved learning and have this ridiculous notion to know everything... So I went back and got my MA in Reading Education (K-12) from the University of South Florida. (Proud NOTE: I maintained a perfect 4.0 and graduated Summa Cum Laude)

We made some decisions and we relocated back to sunny Florida to be close to family and friends. When we moved back to Florida, I took a position as an International Baccalaureate coordinator for a Primary Years Programme. (Yes, if you have put all of the pieces together, I have spent my entire career in International Baccalaureate schools. I LOVE the IB programmes. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. If you are not familiar, you should definitely check them out! ALSO, I would love to chat with you about the IB programmes...).

After moving back to Florida, I was beyond blessed to find out that I was pregnant with our beautiful daughter, Ava.

I cannot even imagine how I ever lived without this tiny little human. She is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I am eternally grateful to be her mommy!

Other VERY important (and random) things to know about me:

2. I can bake something FIERCE. I. LOVE. SUGAR.
3. I have a *slight* obsession with picture books.
4. I have a shopping problem. I love a good sale...
5. I have ridiculously high expectations. Everything can always be improved.
6. My favorite game is Scattergories.

16. I love metallic gold- I have a crazy impulse to buy GOLD anything (especially school supplies, storage items, and decor).

AND most importantly...

The Gerlach household is subjective to any and all celebrations.

We are an interfaith family. I am Roman Catholic and my husband is Jewish. We are both extremely open-minded and respectful of each others' faith as well as any other religions and/or beliefs.

In addition to all traditional holidays (i.e. New Year's, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) and Jewish holidays (i.e. Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Hannukah, Purim), we also have an ongoing celebration for other random and wonderful things. I intend on adding even more this year! Here are some highlights:

 Pajama Glama: Oscars Viewing Party

Shark Week Viewing Party... Our entire family is obsessed with sharks!
Nutcracker Ballet- we see the show EVER. YEAR. in matching outfits.
In the past couple of years, I have been blessed both personally and professionally. I am grateful for all of the people, places, and experiences that have shaped in my life. I truly believe that everyone should do what makes this happy. I have found my happiness in both education and my personal life. While I don't always have everything figured out or do everything perfect, I can honestly say that I do my best :)

Once again, thank you for stopping by... I hope to get to know you as well! Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions and/or comments. I would love to hear from you :) Comments make my heart happy!

  1. Ahh, you are so lucky to live in Florida. I always say- why do I have to love my family so much? If it wasn't for them, I would totally seek sunshine! And, Florida would be my first pick!!

  2. Hi Holly,
Thanks for this blog. It is beaming with very useful and interesting tools for the classroom. Greetings from Spain.
